New Tastes

Sean eating his first ever McDonalds burger
This summer Sean has started to eat the same foods as the rest of us... for the first time in his life he has been trying new foods. So, after years of surviving on bread and butter with prescription vitamin enhanced milkshakes, he is daring to put new foods in  his mouth. This is a big deal for us all!

His motivation is that he really wants to go to school camp next summer on the Isles of Scilly. We've said he can but he has to be able to eat more foods just like his friends otherwise it's not really possible. Fortunately he is bright enough to understand, and though it is not easy for him, he is really trying.

(Admittedly we are also using bribery and corruption and giving him money  as a reward when he does try new foods- but even the psychologist we saw a few years ago said this would be worth trying when he was old enough to understand).

I've started a hexagon granny square blanket this week. Inspired by the crochet along with the Inner Hooker on facebook. Here is my first 10 blocks...

I was working with the idea that they looked like a field of flowers, but my lot all seem to think they look like lily pads, so even I am thinking of them like that now... I've even started to look at maybe making an amigurumi frog to sit on them... I'm sure  I've a pattern for one somewhere...

Anyway, until next time

Tom's birthday weekend

Happy Birthday Thomas
When we have birthdays in our family we choose the nearest weekend and call that a birthday weekend so that the birthday person gets to choose a place to go and a place to eat out. So yesterday was a really busy day for the whole family. First Tom wanted to go shopping in Truro, then we went to St Austell to go bowling. We had a fun game which was more even than usual as Tom and John had to play without the sidebars (me and Sean need them or we don't score at all, and Kieran set the game up so he got them too!). We then split up, with John, Sean and me going geocaching while Tom and Kieran played pool, before we all met up again for a fantastic three course meal at Frankie and Benny's to celebrate Tom's 18th birthday. We ended up full and very relaxed...

Today we finally got to do a birthday cake with candles and champagne for Tom- three days late!  It was however Tom's fifth birthday cake - how he managed that I'm not sure...

Adventures in Geoland

As I've said before on this blog my family enjoys walking and have just discovered Geocaching. We've now decided to set up a separate family blog to share our adventures exploring all the beautiful places we visit. From now on I will put stories and photos about our walks and days out on our blog Adventures in Geoland - http://adventuresingeoland.blogspot.com/

I will continue to post the creative side of my life here...

My amigurumi is progressing. I've crocheted the arms now and just have to put the finishing touches on tomorrow.

I've also got to start seriously thinking about doing a birthday card for my eldest son Thomas who is 18 this Friday, 8th April.

Until next time

Time for the children

I love this poem that I first heard when my children were much younger. Its one that I think should be taught to all mothers (and fathers) to help when the guilt of not getting everything done makes them wonder what they should leave out or not do. Just think about it...

I hope that my child, looking back on today

Will remember a mother who had time to play;

Because children grow up while you're not looking,

There are years ahead for cleaning and cooking.

So, quiet now cobwebs, dust go to sleep.

I'm rocking my baby, and babies don't keep.

Take care
